Wednesday, you had dark curly hair, black and white plaid shirt and were sitting at the bar with a guy. Is that your boyfriend? You're gorgeous even when you're stuffing your face.

Manicures? Pedicures? Facials? What?
When I was 10, I had a unibrow, my hair was always in a braid, I was always wearing sweatpants and I was apparently a huge fan of those Keds slip ons. I always wore Looney Tunes, Chicago Bulls and "Bum Equipment" (do you remember that brand?) clothing, too. Take a quick look at the picture above. The LAST thing on your girl's mind was anything mani, pedi, and spa-related. I just wanted to play sports, hang out with Kyle Balmer (Nicole Bachta, I hear you too)..and eat. It wasn't even until my Highschool days that I got into the waxing, threading, dermatologist, and overall beauty game. So seriously, what is this world coming to? I guess there's a pampering craze among 9-10 year olds that I was completely unaware of until now.
The Phoenix’s Keating, who sees nine-year-olds in her spa on a regular basis, says she’d refuse any spa-going request by her own nine-year-old daughter, save for nail-painting as a treat. Klein takes her almost-12-year-old daughter into spas for the occasional cleansing facial (“Good skin care is a habit, and I’d like her to learn that habit early”), but draws the line at other spa services (mommy-daughter manis excluded).Peep the rest of the article here.

Thanks Raul!!
HAVANA, Cuba (AP) -- President Raul Castro's government is allowing ordinary Cubans to have cell phones.
Cuba's President Raul Castro is allowing Cubans to have cell phones.
Friday's decree officially lifts a major restriction on daily life in Cuba.
It's the kind of small freedom many on the island have been hoping Raul Castro would embrace since taking over the presidency from his older brother Fidel last month.
Some Cubans previously ineligible for cell phones already had gotten them by having foreigners sign contracts in their names. E-mail to a friend

Spring Break: I forgot how to blog and how to party.
Some people spend their Spring Break on a beach, sipping a couple two, three or thirteen margaritas with their best friends. Jamaica? Sure. Cancun? I got you. I don't know the specifics, so I might have to ask AB about what REALLY goes down during this time. Dude knows how to party. Me? I have no clue. This is what Ive been doing these past few days, though:
Changing my oil - Check. I hate doing this, let's not talk about it until the next 3,000 miles are up, ok?
Baking/eating brownies- Check. Duh?
Watching "The Office"-Check. Because this is my shit right here. Who do I identify with most? Kelly, of course. Oh, and Dwight Schrute.
Searching for a Spring trenchcoat- Check. I know, I didn't think I was going to find it so fast, but I did, out of nowhere, while returning some shirt. Thanks H&M, 60 bucks.
Dropping off dry cleaning- Check. I never want to see my Winter coat again..at least until next year sometime.
Missing a call from my boss-Check. Because sidekicks are the most unreliable phones and my ass didn't wake up until 11:00am anyway.
Sippin' Ethiopian coffee-Check. A white dude made it for me.
Shopping at Target-Check, almost. I plan on doing this after I'm done with this quick post and after my hair dries.
All this and it's only been a few days. Lord knows what might happen throughout the week. It might get a little crazy. Just warning you.
PS. I'll be in New York May 11th to May 18th because my best friend is getting her masters from NYU. The ceremony is at Madison Square Garden. Am I the only one that thinks this is crazy? Other plans include getting banana pudding from that cupcake shop that's a block away from Alife and that iced coffee from the small Italian place in Brooklyn.
DOUBLE PS. "No Country For Old Men" is playing at the LaGrange Rd. Theatre for 3 dollars. Google the location, if interested.
TRIPLE PS. My camera's been broken for about a month. I miss taking pictures. I'm getting it fixed ASAP.
That's it. See ya soon.

True Romance
I saw it again last night for the first time in a long time... such a good flick.
Maybe it's just my girly side comin out... which doesn't very often, but it's not to say that I don't still enjoy hopelessly romantic movies ( with a little violence). Maybe this movie is just dope... I mean who the hell doesn't want to fall ridiculously in love overnight and hit the road to start a new life... since your man killed your pimp and stole his suitcase full of coke that he thought was your clothes and all the while have the mob after you, killing everyone but the two of you.

New $5 vs. old
I finally got one of the new 5's... theyre ok. Nice little makeover. Purple's cool... but that huge ass number 5 on the back seems unnecessary
"A new 5 dollar bill was unveiled in September 2007 and entered circulation on March 13, 2008. The new bills feature pastel colors of purple and gray and have new features to defend against counterfeiting. The picture of Abraham Lincoln remains on the front and center of the bill. The image of the Lincoln Memorial remains on the back. The new bills will be moved into the mainstream immediately."
Fast Facts:
1. Federal Reserve: 212 million new bills released in 1st 3 weeks
2. 2 billion $5 bills already in circulation
3. Vending machines have been adjusted to take the new bills
4. New bill unveiled at Lincoln's old summer retreat in DC
5. 1st spent on a book of Lincoln's speeches
6. $5 bill nickname: "fin"
7. Lifespan: 16 months
8. Makes up 9% of all U.S. paper currency

Jordan DVD
...that came with my shoes:
Also...I barely saw part of it, but CNBC did a whole documentary on Nike brand and the subcultures it's created. I was flippin through channels to catch some news updates but instead I end up with a full documentary on 'sneakerheads'. Kind of weird how seriously it's taken. But there were a few Chicago locals featured in the broadcast, along with Mr Jordan himself. Check it out online

IT'S OFFICIALLY SPRING!
So why's it snowing like the freakin blizzard of '79? I'm genuinely tired as hell of this and I for damn sure ain't the only one. I just worked my ass off finishing up my winter quarter at school with strizaight A's, and all I want is to enjoy a spring vacation.....instead we get treated with a fresh 6-inched coat of snow. Not surprisingly, it's bad enough out there to cancel 350 flights at O'Hare and back up traffic for hours. But the snows supposed to stop at 1am tonight and by tomorrow it should be 40some degrees. Still not enough to make me happy.

Nicolas B..
No one is as awesome as my brother Nico...so when I find out that someone did an article on him, of course I'm gonna put it up. Love you! (Peep the article here.) Nico B and the Record Playas (Boom Bap from Chicago): After Nico B, an emcee based out of Chicago, sent me an email with a couple of his tracks attached, I did a quick search on google while I was waiting for the songs to download to find out a little bit about him. The profile on his record label's website placed a strong emphasis on his Cuban background and the fact that he had been performing in Brazil, rapping in a bilingual mix of English and Portuguese. When I finally got a chance to listen to his music, I expected to hear something similar to Reggaeton or the type of Favela-inspired sound that M.I.A. cashed in on a couple of years ago. I must confess that I've never been a huge fan of either genre, so I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out that I was way off-base, as the songs were unquestionably hip hop in its traditional form. Contrary to my initial expectations, Nico B, hailing from the largely Hispanic suburb of Cicero, IL, seems to have been influenced much more by the neighboring city of Chicago and its brand of hip hop. The two songs that Nico sent me feature him rapping over beats that have a fair amount of boom bap to them, with some great production provided by the Record Playas. Give 'em a listen: Nico B featuring Seel Fresh - Up And Down Nico B - Break 'Em Off These two songs are off of Nico's upcoming third album La Kedzie, which will be released by Audio 8 Recordings this summer. For updates on the album, stop by Nico's MySpace page. To hear songs from the rest of his crew, check out the Record Playas page. |

It all makes sense now.
Special shoutout to the California Milk Processor Board for creating this incredibly informative (and entertaining) commercial regarding monthly visitors, mood swings and dairy. Apparently if a woman drinks a glass of milk a day, she is less likely to be a crazy w(b)itch during her special time of the month. Wait, what? This sounds like a guerrilla scare tactic that Moms use on their young girls to get them to drink that nasty white drink. Did the Cali Board do their research? I'm pretty positive that Hispanics (whom this commercial is obviously geared toward) are way more likely to be lactose intolerant than their white counterparts. (Check the specifics here.) The only evidence that would support their claim would have to be my case. Have I secretly been followed around? 1. I hate milk and don't drink it. 2. I drink soy milk every day 3. I'm a complete w(b)itch during Aunt Flo's visit..and the week before..which really only leaves two normal weeks out of the month, but that's irrelevant. So, unless I'm just the exception, preach Cali Board..and thank you for enlightening me on my attitude problem.

I'm Coming Out..
I've failed to mentioned (either in this blog or to people) that I watch "Making The Band" religiously. It's not that I've forgotten that I'm a fan..I'm just a little embarrassed to even bring it up. Aren't these television shows reserved for a subculture that I'm not necessarily a part of? Hi, fuck it, I don't care anymore; I'm coming out with my guilty pleasure. I've sprinkled in an MP3 for your listening pleasure. PS. Holler to the second dude from the right that looks like Sean Kingston.

Holy Shit..
I say a lot of songs are in my "Top 5 of all-time" list...but anyone that knows me well enough knows that King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man" has a special, permanent spot in my heart. Maybe it's the pseudo-stoner in me coming out, or maybe it's because it reminds me of when I was 18 and crazy. I'm also pretty sure I cleaned an ex-boyfriend's bathroom while listening to this song once. Either way, I came across this and had a near heart attack. Special shoutout to Tim who will be way into all the Asian girls in the video!
